The DEL
Thats what most of the locals call it. It has been the home of major motion pictures starring such stars as Marilyn Monroe who had her own bungalow here.  It has hosted presidents, State Dinners, and celebreties.

Eleven U.S. Presidents have visited The Del, starting with Benjamin Harrison in 1891. One of the resort's most famous visitors was England's Prince of Wales in 1920. He would later become King Edward VIII, only to give up his throne in 1936 to marry Coronado divorcee Wallis Spencer Simpson. Many have speculated that they may have first met at The Del.

The Del has played host to some of America's greats, including Thomas Edison, L. Frank Baum and Babe Ruth. Famed aviator Charles Lindbergh was honored at The Del in 1927 after his successful trans-Atlantic flight. At this lavish banquet, a replica of Lindbergh's "Spirit of St. Louis" circled the enormous Crown Room ceiling.  The chandaliers in the Crown Room are off the set of The Wizzard of OZ.

Reports of ghostly happenings and sightings, all thought to be connected to the death of this beautiful young woman, have been circulating at The Del ever since.

SUNDECK - I really enjoy walking through the hotel, then going downstairs inside the hotel tp visit the shops on the way out to the sundeck at the back of the hotel on the beach. This umbrella covered sundeck with glass walls looks out onto the beach and the Point Loma Light House.  It is not uncomon to see military jets and ships comming out of port. Grab a burger or sandwich and a brew and enjoy the ocean breeze and San Diego sun! After you can take off your shoes and walk on the beach.  On the way out stop by the creamery for a scoop or two of decadent handmade ice cream! What a lovely afternoon!
